Summer Blog Break

Hello Lovely Readers!

Thanks for supporting the blog series, Kid Lit Village! It has been great featuring authors and illustrators of new children’s books and I hope you’ve discovered some lovely new books through keeping up with the blog and/or received some great writing tips for those seeking publication. Although there won’t be any more new interviews from now through August, I am working on author/illustrator features for the fall. Feel free to get in touch if you have a new picture book, board book, or early chapter book coming out. I love to feature Canadian creators and nature-themed books. If you’re looking for a blog interview, do not hesitate to reach out to me at kidlitvillage@gmail.com

Sidney, B.C.

I’m off from my regular work as Nature Program Manger of my lovely little preschool so no more taking the children for daily walks to parks and beaches required; however, I might just squeeze in a few on my own because they are so great for de-stressing and I do love soaking up the beauty all around us.

I’ll be thinking ahead to the fall and maybe start a project or two for next year’s class. I will keep you posted with updates around that.

My summer writing goals:

-revise 2-3 picture book manuscripts

-develop characters/plot and dive into writing my MG novel-in-verse (I’m about 400 words in so just barely getting started)

-reading lots of comps

-writing a non-fiction pb manuscript

-send out work, with a goal or 1 poem or pb submission per day

For me summer is a time to PURGE! So I will be doing some trips to the Salvation Army with boxes and bags of donations. We are renovating our living room: new fireplace, flooring, paint and it has turned out house upside down but it gives me greater motivation to get rid of un-necessary items.

How is your summer shaping up? Do you have goals? Are you finding ways to relax or connect with friends/family? I hope summer of 2021 treats you well.

I am a preschool teacher/music teacher who loves to take photos and write stories in her spare time. My dream is to become a published author. Follow my journey as I work towards turning my dream into a reality.
